"...control of thought, speech, expression, belief, faith and communication.

We are currently in the 'Information age' right?
This is the peak of the cycle...
...the expansion of knowledge...
...the 'evolution' of 'memes'...
...and we are far from free.

I think the idea is that the people define what's shown on TV through supply and demand. Or rather demand to profit. The problem with this is that if the large corporations only listen to the "I WANT" rather than "I think this is a good idea" you end up with a society based entirely on greed and when this is recycled by the mass media then eventually it becomes the norm and so people then think it's abnormal not to be greedy and to have any kind of virtuous (whatever that is) value system. Another funny thing on the same subject is that one thing people are 'demanding' is to be maintained (through entertainment, fast food restaurants and what have you) without having to think, meaning the MTV generation etc.

Anyway, what I was going to say before is that I agree that we're not free (in the common sense) but I don't agree that this is the peak. I think (or rather, I hope) there is going to be something bigger and greater than the so-called information age.

.........Jesus, sounds like one of those little extracts from the Alpha Centauri game.

i've been reading interesting articles that theorize that what was once 'demand' powered supply, has now become a supply powered demand...
...now that the media, the corporations, the top, as it were... defines the bottom, the masses, the demand... the evolution of ideas stagnates, and you get a purely profit based feed-back system, where we are all increasingly considered as statistics, or mallable (sp?) consumers, another node in a system that streamlines itself into obscurity.

they put it better than i ever could.

i agree we're not free too, but not just in the common sense, but literally... sure, we have 'economic' freedom, but that freedom is purely reliant on a system, and is therefore not free. True freedom is too scary a prospect for man, it involves risk, uncertainty, and hard work, heh.

By 'peak of the cycle' i meant the peak of this cycle... who knows what the peak of the next one will be... and i doubt i'll be alive to see it... but you never know...

When life makes us sad,
See clouds above head,
Feel rain on cheek,
Stones beneath feet,
And just think,
How indifferent are they to how we feel?
