Studying Anarchism and also looking at various other sources of information/beliefs, all related to a future Utopia, i've come to realise one startling fact...

...no matter how peaceful the Utopian vision...
...no matter how 'free' we'll be...
...how liberated...
...'saved'... from ourselves or the tyranny of evil men...

...there seems to be a lot of ambiguity of how we actually 'get' there.

- - - - - - - -

I've been there...

...infact i still am of a Utopian Mindset (there's a philosophy book written about the 'Utopian Mind', entitled, funnily enough, 'The Philosophy of the Utopian Mind'. I gotta buy it someday)...

...you begin to advocate and believe in the end of the world as we know it, mainly because you really want it to happen.

The 'end' can happen in a variety of ways, ranging from natural disaster, human intervention, even divine intervention, and some ways are even prophecized... gives them a little more 'umph'.

The thing is this... violence... death... suffering... revenge...
...a common theme in most ways to 'Utopia'.

I'm completely aghast, worried that people can hold these ideas...
...ideas which completely contradict the idea of a Utopia.

Violence breeds violence... among other things...
...such as revenge... hatred... etc.

I don't care if you're going to 'save' us...
...we need saving from people like you.

Violence is not the answer.

So... if i still dream of progressing to a Utopian society, how do i envisage 'getting' there?

Well, 'progress' is exactly the way.
Not some instant, bloody, revolt.
But a gradual erosion of the things that restrict our Liberty.
A realization of the evils in the world, and a gradual removal of the means by which 'evil' has power.

I believe one good way of doing this is by properly educating people.
I think this is the main thing i'm going to be concentrating on in my life.

But i have other ideas... not 'mine' par se... but ideas that i 'hold'.
Such as the decentralization of the production and distribution process.
Getting rid of big business, splitting financial power from the few, and sharing it among the many.

Also, taxes should trickle 'up' the system, not down it.
Going to local government first, and working it's way up to 'central' government.
This way, any corruption along the 'line' will be the governments concern, and it WILL concern them... corruption will have to be rooted out for government to increase its effectiveness.
Because any corruption in the line, removes money from their pockets, not ours.

Seperation from 'State' and Education will be my main concern though...
...it's such an obvious conflict of interest that i cannot see why it hasn't been done already.

Anyways... dunno how to end this, so i just will :D

you could do a theory about how i never seem to think of anything to post as a comment :) perhaps its due to pressures of society forcing me to reply, and since i have no opinion of my own, i can think of nothing to say. or perhaps i do have things to say, but aren't relevent to your discussion. or maybe i have things to say which are relevent to your discussion, but i've already seen you on MSN so i've talked to you about matrix second renassance and co-op shopping. or something

lol

every point in there was a valid one...
...unfortunately it's metaphysically impossible for ALL of them to apply to you at the same time.

Ever so slightly under the influence of alcohol, so I'm not sure how much sense this will make. Although I've typed so far with only one typo, make that 2 now, which is pretty good for me on a normal day... sorry, I still find deinfing 'drunk' difficult.

Um... There is a school of thought that says soon we we'll give up our right to privacy to be replaced with a greater protection from terrorism, and modern techno-crimes. Like what Matt will do when he gets well good at coding.

What do you think? It seems to contradict the ideas of 'greater liberty', at least in the traditional sense.

Have a good one. Four/five typos. Nope, six. And none that appear on the screen. So there you go. Just crap spelling :)

This is true... i believe we'll gradually slide into a less liberal and more 'secure' and fear driven soceity myself... we're already starting to edge that way, what with the Patriot Act and the soon coming RFID chips and European Union medical cards...

...it does contradict ideas of 'greater liberty', which is exactly the problem.

I'm saying things don't need to be like this.
I wonder if i'll have any effect... and when do i take action?

When is the time... my time...?

All rather interesting for me, probably no one else... but it's my life :P

Take care dude...
...sounds like you're having fun :)

This has had me thinking on and off for a bit. Not about privacy and liberty - it seems, for a while a least, that people will surrender their right for privacy and allow the powers that be protect their other rights more vigourously. Whether they succeed, or if it's a good thing, I don't know. What I do know, is that if someone today wanted to find me, trace my movements, know pretty much what I was doing at any point, it would be east for them to...

But you were saying about when's the time. I don't really know, if it is so inevitable, maybe. And also when's your time? I don't know that either, but a thought did occur - surely the only time we have is now?

Maybe you mean something different, I don't know. It's never been 'my time', and so long as I follow this path, it won't ever be, thank God. But some people, who have had moments, have sometimes said that their time was only because they made it theirs. Or something like that.

I'm in an odd mood. I'm gonna write something about non-linear mathmatics. You might want to look into that, philosophically, it seems to have some... major... implications.

When life makes us sad,
See clouds above head,
Feel rain on cheek,
Stones beneath feet,
And just think,
How indifferent are they to how we feel?
